Free sleep music FAQ
Is this sleep music really free?
Yes. Every track streams free here with no sign-up and no ads, and every track has a free MP3 download. The music is by Purrple Cat and licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0).
What is the best free music for sleep?
Slow, soft and wordless music with no sudden changes. Start with Deep Sleep, the calmest room. If you like the sound of weather, try Rain on the Roof or the Ocean Room. If you are lying awake at 3 a.m., Can’t Sleep keeps you company without being loud.
How does the sleep timer work?
Hang the Do Not Disturb sign: pick a room, choose when the lights go out (15 to 90 minutes) and how long the fade should be. Over the last minutes the music slowly fades to silence, and if you like, the page dims with it. Then it stops by itself.
Which playlist length should I pick?
For a power nap, 20 minutes. To fall asleep, 30 to 45 minutes is plenty for most people. A 90-minute playlist is roughly one sleep cycle. If you like music on all night, the 8-hour playlist runs from lights out to morning without a single repeat.
Can I listen offline?
Yes. Download any track as an MP3, or save a whole playlist as an M3U8 file and open it in VLC or any media player.
What is bedside mode?
A near-black screen with a big, dim clock, the track name and the time left on your sleep timer, so you can leave your phone on the nightstand without lighting up the room.
Can I use this music in my sleep videos and livestreams?
Yes, with credit. Use it on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch and all social media, in videos and livestreams, including sleep, meditation and ambience videos. Add the credit “Music by Purrple Cat”.
Will my videos get Content ID claims?
No. The music is not registered with Content ID, so your videos, streams and VODs won’t be claimed for it.
Can I upload the music to Spotify or Apple Music?
No. The music must never be uploaded to music streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer or Tidal. That includes remixes, samples and covers of it.
Who makes the music?
Purrple Cat, an independent lofi project with 500+ songs. Every track on this site is an original instrumental.
